… a lot like Christmas at Gaylord Palms Resort! The special events crew has just finished installing the Majestic Christmas Tree inside the hotel atrium.

The tree, which towers above Emerald Plaza, has been decked with new LED lights, providing a brighter shine and greater energy efficiency.
This picture was taken shortly after the crew began testing the lights.

Although Orlando's ICE! attraction won't open for several weeks, Gaylord Palms is giving a "sneak peek" of this cool holiday spectacle, thanks to two cool web cams that are already feeding live images to fans.
Web Cam One: The Crystal Carousel
The Crystal Carousel is currently under construction inside the ICE! attraction at Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando. This show-stopping scene will feature a full-sized "Christmas Carousel" made completely from ice. When complete, ICE! visitors will be able to step onto the carousel, and take advantage of several photo opportunities.
Artisans from China are currently at work inside the 9-degree attraction. To see the progress, click on the web cam link at ChristmasinOrlando.com, found on the left-hand column of the page.
Web Cam Two: Santa's Magic Flight

Santa's Magic Flight is also under construction inside the ICE! attraction. This newly-engineered scene is created from nearly 1 million pounds of ice, and features ice slides for children and adults.
When it opens on Nov. 14, the web cam will catch visitors to the attraction as they slide down the scene's four slides.

Last year, Orlando Sentinel posted a gallery of photos from Orlando's theme parks, including the shot above of The Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It includes images that have run in the print editions throughout the years. You can find the gallery here.
They also posted a second gallery that includes photos of ICE!, taken by Orlando Sentinel photographers over the past six years. It even includes some shots of last year's Orlando Polar Bear Club trek through the 9-degree attraction! You can find the gallery here.

They came… they saw… they froze their, um, body parts!

The very first gathering of the Orlando Polar Bear Club was a success! A large crowd gathered Friday morning at Gaylord Palms Resort to run through the 9-degree ICE! attraction… in swimwear!

Why? I'm not sure one can fully explain.

For one, it was a fundraiser for Special Olympics Florida. And it was one of those things to do… just to say you did it!

For highlights there is a video posted on YouTube:
If you want to see more photos, they are available on the club's Facebook group page. There are also several in the Orlando Sentinel ICE! photo gallery.

Christmas is the most wonderful season of the year in Orlando. So wonderful, that you'll find elements of it during the rest of the year, too!
At Gaylord Palms Resort, it's Christmas in July:
Summer Gnome Hunt

One of the favorite guest activities during Best of Florida Christmas at Gaylord Palms Resort is the Hidden Holiday Gnome Hunt, featuring The Roaming Gnome from Travelocity. Guests scour the atriums to find the little guys cleverly hidden throughout the resort. As part of the Florida Caladium Showcase, the hotel is featuring a Summer Hidden Gnome Hunt through Sept. 15. The prize is a weekend stay at Gaylord Palms during Best of Florida Christmas.
Give Kids the World Christmas Party

The Gaylord Palms employee volunteer committee, GET Involved, often provides a team to assist at Give Kids The World village. This amazing resort houses families with children who have critical illnesses, and have wished for a trip to Orlando. It is one of the most magical place in Orlando, ranking up there with the theme park attractions.
Because Gaylord Palms is so closely associated with Christmas — and the ICE! attraction — the group chose to volunteer at the "Winter Wonderland" party. Essentially, the group helped throw a Christmas in July party for the families, complete with a visit by Santa, gifts, face painters, and a holiday parade! [Click on the images to see a larger view.]

Gaylord Palms Christmas Team Outing
We caught the Gaylord Palms "Christmas special events team" during an outing at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Where would such a holiday-obsessed team hang out? First, we searched at the "ice coaster" inside Dueling Dragons. No such luck. Finally, it dawned on us. There they were, inside the Christmas Shoppe, of course!

It's only July… and Christmas in Orlando is everywhere!
