Orlando Nutcracker in a Nutshell
Filed in Christmas, Event Update, Orlando News | 10 June, 2007
The first of several Orlando-area "Nutcracker" updates has arrived.
This December, Orlando Ballet is moving "the lion's share" of its performances of "Nutcracker" back to the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando. To be precise: Dec. 14-16 and 20-23, 2007.
You may remember that Orlando's most popular "Nutcracker" was booted from that very stage in 2006 to make room for an extended run of "Disney's The Lion King." Hmmm… talk about the Mouse King. Because of Orlando's severe lack of major performance spaces, Orlando Ballet moved its holiday extravaganza to the next county… Osceola's Performing Arts Centre.
Although Orlando Ballet is back at the Bob Carr in 2007, two performances (an encore?) remain in Osceola County: Dec. 8 and 9.
No word if the Central Florida Ballet will be performing "Nutcracker" again at the Orange County Convention Center, after their 2006 debut in the Linda Chapin Theater. At least, there is no mention on its website.
But add a new a "Nut" to the mix in 2007: Lakeland's Youkey Theater will host the Moscow Ballet's "Great Russian Nutcracker" on Dec. 28, 2007. The show, direct from the former Soviet Union, features a new setting: the Land of Peace and Harmony.
