The biggest surprise of this holiday season (beside's SeaWorld's odd last-minute Polar Express announcement) has been the show Luminescence – A Christmas Fantasy, now appearing nightly at Gaylord Palms Resort. Pardon the cliche, but this show rocks!
Imagine attending a Christmas-themed rock concert in the middle of the Gaylord Palms atrium. Don't worry… it's not too over-the-top rock. Those watching the show are giving it a universal thumbs up — both young and old!
The new show, the brainchild of the hotel's holiday showmeister Aaron Mendelson, has been described as "Christian Rock meets Pink Floyd." Certainly the abundance of lasers, special effects, and aerial exhibitions prove the point.
Performed by a talented cast of musicians and vocalists, this is a show remember. (And for those who want to remember it well, the resort even sells a CD of the performance!)
Want to learn more? Gaylord Palms has launched a new website dedicated to the phenomenon. Visit: www.luminescencetheshow.com

According to the Orlando Sentinel (and an email sent to passholders this week), Grinchmas is back
on at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," the park will feature a brand new live musical stage-show salute to the beloved holiday story.
Also new: "Who-ville's Wonky Tree Lot" and The Grinch character breakfast, which runs at 8 a.m. Thursdays through Sundays. [Cost is $19.95 for adults, $13.95 for kids ages 9 and younger. Info and reservations: 407-224-4012.]
Heralded as "The Return of Grinchmas," this year's celebration should make up for last year's scaled-back Grinch-themed holiday who-ha. Who-ray!
(Oh, and for those who can't make it to Orlando this Christmas, the 50th birthday of The Grinch is also being celebrated in Nashville, with Gaylord Opryland's Grinch-themed version of ICE!)

Breaking Orlando News:
COLD WEATHER IN ORLANDO IS BLAMED ON GAYLORD PALMS RESORT
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Nov. 7) — Central Florida residents woke up this morning to a burst of cold air that is being blamed on, of all things, an Osceola county resort. According to news wire reports, the cause of this morning's cool weather has been traced to Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, where a new holiday attraction is currently under construction.
The attraction, which is called ICE!, is currently being carved from 2 million pounds of ice by a group of 40 artisans from China. The temperature began falling when the elaborate refrigeration system used to cool the 18,000-square-foot attraction to 9 degrees began to malfunction.
"Essentially, they've created a 9-degree winter-like environment in the middle of sunny Florida," said an Osceola county official who asked not to be identified. "What they didn't count on was the accidental cooling of the entire region to 50-some degrees."
The attraction, which is nearly complete, will debut Nov. 19. The attraction will be open to the public through Jan. 3.
This year, guests will take a holiday road trip through ICE!, traveling into a full-size igloo, across a winter wonderland, aboard a holiday train, into the North Pole and inside Candy Land – a magical destination reminiscent of America’s favorite children’s board game. At Penguin Pointe, a thrilling tribute to the attraction’s unique fusion of art and engineering, guests can enjoy three ice slides – including the tallest and longest slide in ICE! history!
The Nativity, carved in painstaking detail from crystal-clear ice, will return with a revised design, and a dramatic new narrative.
According to Gaylord Palms spokesman Keith Salwoski, the situation is under control.
"Our attraction is still 9 degrees, and by afternoon, Orlando temperatures will be back to 70 degrees," he said. "So, in the mean time, we welcome local residents to, um, chill out!"

Although Orlando's ICE! attraction will not open for several weeks, Gaylord Palms is given a "sneak peek" into the attraction — a first for this cool holiday spectacle.
Web Cam One: Penguin Pointe

Penguin Pointe is currently under construction inside the ICE! attraction at Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando. The scene is created from nearly 1 million pounds of ice, and features three ice slides for children and adults. One slide is the longest in the history of the attraction, measuring 5 feet taller and 30 feet longer than previous years!
Artisans from China are currently at work inside the 9-degree attraction. When it opens on Nov. 19, the web cam will catch visitors to the attraction as they slide down the scene's three slides.

Web Cam Two: Frostproof Express

Frostproof Express is also under construction inside the ICE! attraction. The scene features an oversided train crafted from several colors of ice. When completed, ICE! visitors will be able to walk inside the train, and can take advantage of several photo opportunities, before moving on to Candy Land, a colorful new ICE! adventure.
